The 'History of Hutton Bros'
Ken and Alan Hutton established their first garage at Copmanthorpe, Near York, back in the late 1950's, having literally built the garage themselves. Having held the franchises for a number of different manufacturers including Fiat and Mercedes Benz Ken and Alan recognised the qualities being shown by a relative newcomer to the UK - Volvo. Even then Volvo offered an excellent blend of value for money and quality. As the chief mechanic Alan's engineering background recognised those little extra touches that differentiated Volvo from the crowd. In fact, at that time, some cars were well past their best after as few as 40,000 miles. Volvos from that era are, with a little TLC, still on the road today (see the picture of Ken's 1800ES sports coupe). Having established the Volvo marque in the York area over a period of decades, Ken and Alan decided to sell up and go into semi-retirement. After a very short time, however, the itch re-started and they established an independent garage and specialised in selling, repairing and servicing used Volvos and Hutton Bros, as we now know it, was born. Our garage at Slingsby is run with the same enthusiasm and dedication to customer care that Hutton Bros have always strived for. This attention to detail and no-nonsense approach has meant that we have been graced with many loyal customers, some of which have dealt with us for over 40 years! We appreciate that most garages talk a lot about customer care and we only ask that, if you are considering a Volvo as your next purchase, perhaps take a trip up to Hutton Bros at Slingsby where, even if you don't buy a car from us, you'll be glad you called in for some old-fashioned, straight forward advice.
